Our Story

Why We Love What We Do

Umi Feeds began organically.  What started out as food rescue has turned into a monthly feeding. While volunteering at an event, as the night came to a close I realized the food was soon to be discarded.

I asked if I could take the food and give it to the homeless which was a short distance away, they said yes! In that very moment, Umi Feeds was born! When I gave out the food, I quickly remembered how great the need and feeling was.

As a youth, I volunteered with my Aunt, who was also called Ummi, in New York City. I helped prepare the sandwiches and the next day we went to Manhattan and fed the homeless.

There were so many people in line needing food. That outing with my Aunt sparked the awakening of my social awareness in regards to the need of others.

Fast forward to 2017 and it has been a year! It has been a whirlwind! Umi Feeds has been growing so fast! Each month we feed over 100 people!

To date, we’ve served over 3600 meals to homeless men and women in Atlanta. I've been amazed at how this has taken off. While in amazement at the growth I'm simultaneously in disbelief with the number of people without housing. It's very humbling to see how many people we serve in need of food, resources, and immediate shelter.
